In May, John Henes presented master classes in the Alexander Technique applied to musical performance for the Music Teacher.s Association of California, Orange county Branch and for students at Chapman University. The following is a quote from the Music Teacher.s Association of California June newsletter. "Our featured clinician was John Henes, a specialist in the Alexander Technique and a faculty member of the Northwestern School of Music. .. Mr. Henes proved to be a gentle, effective teacher and it is easy to see why he is considered amongst the top in the field. It was especially delightful to watch him work with our talented students...."

In April, John gave several master classes for the Tennessee Tech University Music School. John worked with vocal, piano, wind, percussion, and string players. He also did a special master class with all of the students in Charlie Decker.s trumpet studio.

2007

The start of the summer was busy one for me. On June 1st I gave a lecture/demonstration about the Alexander Technique and trumpet playing at the International Trumpet Guild conference at the University of Massachusetts. It was really nice to hang out with some old friends and make some new friends. I also got to hear some wonderful playing. You can read a review of my talk at: http://tpin.okcu.edu/2007conferencecoverage/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=43&Itemid=38

The next week I was in Saint Paul, Minnesota for the annual American Society for the Alexander Technique annual meeting where I was invited to teach private lessons to the teachers and teaching trainees attending the conference. Again I got to hang out with some old friends and make some new ones. One highlight was meeting my niece’s Alexander teacher, Eileen Troberman, from San Diego. Another high light was having a running lesson with Malcolm Balk who has a new book out called Master the Art of Running, Raising your Performance with the Alexander Technique by Malcolm Balk & Andrew Shields. I would also like to recommend another new book written by a dear friend, Missy Vineyard, How You Stand, How You Move, How You Live.

Then, in July I was once again on the faculty of Northwestern University’s National High School Music Institute and got to work with some very talented students.

My summer finished on a high note as I share the Alexander Technique with the singers as an instructor at the Steans Institute for Young Artists at Ravinia.
